Orchid Solutions

The Orchid Practice and Solutions Educational Psychology Joint Working Model

Orchid Solutions is a collaborative service designed to support children and young people more holistically.  We believe that collaboration between services provides children, young people and their families with a broader perspective and a greater understanding of individual strengths, needs and potential ways forward. It enables families to access two highly skilled professionals in the same room and negates them having to tell their child’s story twice. Joint working between a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) and Educational Psychologist (EP) allows a comprehensive and integrated case formulation to guide any recommendations and ongoing work, which we believe will lead to improved outcomes for children and young people.

Solutions Educational Psychology is an independent educational and child psychology service working across Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas. The service is led by Dr. Emma Sheffield, who values evidence-based psychology in a collaborative, positive and person-centred way to promote and support the learning and wellbeing of children and young people. We work directly with families as well as through educational settings.

  • Art Therapy

Alison is an Art Psychotherapist and a member of the British Association of Art Therapists (BAAT) and registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).  Her experience includes working with children and adolescents with special educational needs. She has a warm, explorative and reflective style that draws from a range of psychotherapeutic approaches. In addition Alison has worked closely with young adults with learning disabilities within a care setting for over 14 years.  Alison aims to provide a client-centred space where the young person is free to express themselves and explore any issues they wish to bring.

    What is Art Therapy?

Art Psychotherapy can be a powerful, non-verbal way of expressing unconscious emotions, bringing them alive through art, allowing the therapist to help the child to understand these difficult feelings.

Art Psychotherapy offers a place for someone to explore difficult thoughts, emotions, ideas, and relationships through the use of art materials. The therapist doesn’t interpret the art work, but instead works with with the person to understand it. Artistic skill is not a requirement as there is so much meaning in the process and the relationship built with the therapist

  • Art therapy helps children & adults who have:

    Difficulty understanding their emotions
    Mental health
    Behaviour or emotional issues
    Attachment disorders
    Developmental disorders
    Autistic spectrum disorders
    Experience of abuse
